Rock The Bells 2012 Line-up & Details Announced! [NEWS]

So it seems Rock The Bells is catering to a more diverse crowd of hip hop fans.. Usually a festival for more purist hip hop heads.. This year Guerilla Union decided to add more mainstream acts like Wiz Khalifa, J Cole, Mac Miller, Tyga, 2 Chainz and more onto the bill (on the MAIN STAGE at that).. I'm going to let my disappointment of Guerilla Union's seemingly "sellout" actions, I'll say there are AMAZING things planned for the concert with some of the best hip hop artists in history..  Major highlights include Bone Thugs performing E. 1999 Eternal, Red & Meth performing their "Blackout" album, another Hit Squad reunion, plus a Missy & Timbaland Set, Dipset, Ice Cube, E-40 & Too Short, Big Daddy Kane, Salt-n- Pepa, Naughty By Nature and more.. And I can't tell you how happy I am that the shows wont be at Governor's Island (ferry ride back was HELL).. As for tickets, the Mountain View stop has a presale tomorrow (Thurs 5/17), while San Francisco & NYC have presales on Friday (5/18).. The public will be able to purchase regular or VIP tickets this Saturday, May 19 on Livenation.com..

R.I.P MCA - Adam Yauch 1964-2012
Philanthropist, Hip-Hop pioneer and Beastie Boys' member Adam Yauch passed away this morning at the age of 47 after a three year battle with cancer.. We would first like to thank Adam for his contributions to hip hop, the culture wouldn't be the same without the Beastie Boys. As a Brooklynite this hits hard and I remember the Beasties were the first rap group I was realy allowed to listen to since they were Jews too.. :) Condolences and prayers go out to the family and friends of the late legend MCA.

Moments ago, Tim Westwood shared some rare footage from 1986 Raising Hell Tour London featuring Beastie Boys, LL Cool J, Whodini & Run-DMC with crowd surfing, fighting, bottles thrown & crazy live performances in front of a hostile crowd! Last night Lauryn Hill actually debuted a new(!) song at a concert in DC.. I'm guessing it doesn't sound exactly like the live version above since we all know Ms. Hill loves to improvise/mosh out on stage.. Looking forward to hearing the studio version (hopefully soon!)..

If for some reason you aren't familiar, the X-Ecutioners are a legendary DJ/Turntablist group which includes Rob Swift, the late Roc Raida (r.i.p.), Total Eclipse & Mista Sinista. Swift just upped this rare EPK that The X-Ecutioners made in 1997 (before their first album). Enjoy this rare treat and get to know the men behind the decks.

Kool Herc Hospitalized, Needs Financial Assistance (Donation Info)

According to a statement made by DJ Premier on his Sirius XM satellite radio show, 'Live From HeadQCourterz,' hip-hop legend DJ Kool Herc has been hospitalized and is in need of financial support. While there's no specific details on Herc's illness, Premier claims that the hip-hop veteran's condition is deteriorating, and that he's without medical insurance.

"Kool Herc is very sick," Premier revealed. "For those that know about Hip-Hop, who we call the father of Hip-Hop, Kool Herc, is not doing well. It's funny how we have a father of a culture that still lives, where as in some cultures they are dead and gone even though they may still be worshipped or reflected on in some kind of way [sic]."

Lauryn Hill Performs Fugees & 'Miseducation' Classics in Connecticut [VIDEO]

Lauryn Hill more than warmed up for her winter tour at Toad's Place in New Haven, CT this Wednesday night (12/22).. She performed a barrage of hits such as "Killing Me Softly," "Lost Ones," and "Doo Wop (That Thing)," backed by her jazzy/spontaneous band.. Lauryn has a slew of show dates starting next Monday at Highline Ballroom in NYC, followed by 5 more dates in the NYC area in Williamsburg, Brooklyn and back in Manhattan to the Bowery Ballroom and then aa three night run at the Blue Note Jazz club. Among other stops, the revered songstress will also show her talents in her home state of New Jersey while playing for sold out crowds in both Atlantic City and Montclair. We've got out tix for Monday, do you have yours?? DO you think Miss Hill will make all of her tour stops?? It seems pretty grueling... It's a serious discussion, one that Eells said had "little evidence of the prankster you hear on his records." One thing Eells didn't mention is the rap Eminem wrote about him — which you can read for yourself above.
