Nas Talks 'Lost Tapes Vol. 2' & Label Issues [VIDEO]

MTV:
Nas' anticipated The Lost Tapes: Vol. 2 could be fans' gain and current label Def Jam's loss.
The rapper revealed that he intends to release the project as part of a special-edition version of his next album, due out later this year.
"Because I kind of lost time, I really wanted to release [the album] in December," Nas told MTV News just before the holidays. "But I'm starting my next album. So I feel like I'll probably give The Lost Tapes as a deluxe, maybe, on the next album for free. I'm trying to figure that out now."

VIDEO/NEWS: Shyne To Drop Multiple Albums, Links with Cash Money

MTV: After just about a decade in prison and being away from music, Shyne obviously has an enormous amount of fodder to expound upon now that he's able to record again. The Brooklyn-raised MC already has a distribution deal with Def Jam to put out an LP called Gangland in December. And while talking on Skype to MTV News last week, he revealed that there may be a whole separate project coming at the same time.
"I'm done," Shyne said of Gangland, which is also the name of Shyne's imprint. "I'm just making albums at this point. I'm on my fifth album. I'm not sure, me and Baby [Birdman] been talking. We been talking about doing the Cash Money thing where I put one album out on Def Jam, distributed by Def Jam, and Baby [will] distribute one album on Cash Money."
The LP on Cash Money would be called Messiah.
"I might do that. I'm not sure," Shyne said about coming with the Cash Money back project. "We're still finishing the fine points and negotiating that. Maybe I'll come with something six months later, [maybe] every six months. I've got so much to say, you dig? I don't think I can answer all the questions on one album. So I definitely think we can put out two different albums on the same day at the end of the year, then come back with a third one or another double set six months later. Get all this sh-- off my chest."
"I've known Baby since I was young blood. Since I was coming up. I remember they used to come to New York and perform. Cash Money been running for a long time, since '97, putting it in. I remember when they were coming to New York and putting it in. That's when Wayne was a real young blood at the time. They performed at the Tunnel and I used to stay in contact with the theme through my co-defendant.
"[Birdman] was gonna take me on tour with them, then I got locked up," he continued. "He reached out to me and let me know if there was anything he could to assist. When I was about to come out, he reached out to me again to see if there was anything he could do to help me. We've always had an open line of communication through the same banner, through the same rag. That's inevitable. I've got the utmost respect for what he does. [Baby's] a real roller, putting it in. He built Cash Money from nothing to something that's been great. Wayne, what's up. Rikers Island, I know the brothers is taking care of you in there. So Cash Money is definitely family."

VIDEO: Fabolous Talks About Re-Releasing 'There is No Compeition 2' as an EP

MTV:
"It's really incredible how people will connect with the work," Fab said. "I think we put a lot of work into it, with the whole funeral theme. We didn't just say it and you had to daydream it. We went into the funeral homes. We picked caskets out for the competition. Def Jam, this summer, is gonna put the mixtape out as an EP. So I did about four new songs, put 'em with some of the original joints from the mixtape. We got more viral videos coming. We just gonna keep it going and let it end as the classic it is. A lot of people saying it's a classic, one of the, if not the best mixtape of 2010. It's crazy to me, because it started out as something I wanted to give free to the fans and people who accept my work. Def Jam even came in and said, 'Whoa, we gotta get a piece.' It's a good thing, man. "

NEWS: Freeway Ricky Ross Official Files Lawsuit Against Rapper Rick Ross, Jay-Z, Slip n Slide, UMG [View Court Papers]
(AllHipHop News) It’s official: former drug kingpin “Freeway” Ricky Ross has filed a lawsuit against William Leonard Roberts II aka rapper Rick Ross, in a California Federal Court.
Freeway Ricky’s attorney Melvin Sharpe Jr., ESQ., filed a trademark infringement lawsuit on Friday (June 18th) in U.S. District Court, Central District of California.
Judge Percy Anderson will issue summonses to Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter and rapper Rick Ross who could both be called to testify during the discovery process.
Additionally, Jay-Z, Maybach Music Group., Slip-N-Slide Records and UMG Recordings are named as defendants in the lawsuit.
Jay-Z is named in the lawsuit because he signed Ross to Island Def Jam in 2006, while he was President of the legendary label, which Ross still calls home.
Under his deal with Def Jam, Rick Ross has released three chart-topping albums: Port of Miami (2006), Trilla (2008) and Deeper Than Rap (2009).
On Friday, lawyers for Freeway Ricky filed paperwork seeking a temporary restraining order for preliminary and permanent injunction relief, to officially block the release of Ross’ upcoming album Teflon Don.

VIDEO: Def Jam Rapstar Video Game Trailer
"Def Jam Rapstar comes to us from 4mm Games, a new development house formed by former RockStar executives. It's really a no-brainer: Rapstar is Guitar Hero for lyricists, Rock Band for rappers, Singstar with more Biggie Smalls and less ABBA. A lot less ABBA.
"Rapstar isn't about your ability to sing on key, it's about your flow, your knowledge of the lyrics, and your ability to rap with the same delivery as your favorite silver-tongued MC. I was impressed by how much fun my colleagues had in their head-to-head battle, but where I feel
Rapstar is strongest is in its community features. You can upload custom videos, initiate battles with rivals from across the country, and track your favorite performers, all from a social network that rivals the likes of Facebook and MySpace. The developers even want players to form crews and challenge other crews from coast to coast, which as we all know always turns out well in the world of rap..."- Gamespy
