In 2002, while Nas was working on his 6th studio album, God's Son, Amy Winehouse was in the studio recording her debut LP, Frank. People may not know this but both Nas' "Made You Look" and Winehouse's "In My Bed" were produced by Salaam Remi using the same instrumentation (which contained samples from Incredible Bongo Band's "Apache). Furthermore, Remi is credited as a writer on both projects.
When her 2005 breakout album, Back In Black, came out. A song called "Me & Mr. Jones" released and it sparked rumors of an affair or at least a crush. At her first US show in NYC at Joe's Pub, Winehouse declared her love for Nas before performing the track. It mentions a Slick Rick concert and contains the lyrics "Mr. Destiny, 9 and 14." Destiny is Nas' daughters name and 9/14 is the birthday Nas & Winehouse share.
This March, it was reported that Amy's new album had been delayed but she was communicating with Nas: "Amy and Nas have been singing to each other on Skype" the source told UK's Daily Star. "Her new album has a large hip-hop influence to it and Nas fits right into the sound she's wanting now."
A few days before the Nas and Amy partied together, Amy told the same news source that her album would be released within the next six months.
Now we are seeing the two together... An affair? Good friends? Drunk buddies for the night? Maybe he really was trying to just get her out of there safely.. Not trying to speculate but its hard not to.. Who knows, I'm just hoping they get in the studio together and make some good music.
