Lil Kim performs
Wait A Minute ft Ray J, Get Money Youtube Link
Last night me and a few of my girls went to the Lil' Kim concert at Irving Plaza in NYC. Though the tix said 7, we were smart enough not to get there until about 8:40. As you may know, no hip hop show [with the exception of Jay-Z] starts on time. As we guessed, the DJ opener didn't get on until about 9 and though the crowd had been waiting for 2 hours, any mention of the Queen Bee had the kids going wild. It was a heavy mix of females and gays as expected and the energy was great. Incredibly, most Lil' Kim fans have never watched her headline a show, let alone seen her perform [save for some car shows/summer jam surprise].
When Kim came out, the crowd was ready and she really impressed us all. For such a tiny person she has incredible stage presence. Maybe it's because I am a huge fan that I was in awe. I could be biased but fuck it, it was insane. Ray J came out to perform "Wait A Minute," after which he had a little speech firing shots at you know who. Eh, I don't care much for a Nicki vs. Kim "beef," as I don't really see any winners or losers. The two have somewhat separate fan bases (that do overlap) but I don't see either one of them shutting the other down.
Anyway, I thought the show was a success. I had been anticipating it for about a month and it was not a disappointment. Kim really did connect to her fans, even allowing about 20 of them to get on stage and dance/perform with her. I must say, I hope Kim continues to come out and perform because there is a demand for her. Better yet, hopefully she drops a new album asap. -L
