VIDEO/NEWS: Jay-Z & Eminem Impromptu Performance in NYC on Ed Sullivan Theater Roof, News Report, Jay-Z Interview

Just days after the NYPD denied the hip hop artist a permit to perform atop the marquee of the Ed Sullivan Theater in Manhattan, Jay-Z and Eminem teamed up for a joint show much higher in the sky: A makeshift stage was set up on the rooftop of the theater.

The two rap superstars performed sound checks and a short set there Monday for the benefit of the studio audience of the Late Show with David Letterman and for a select number of fans following Jay-Z on Twitter.

At one point Monday, Fox 5's Lisa Evers happened to see Jay-Z, whose name is Shawn Carter, while his SUV was stopped at a red light by the theater. He spoke exclusively to her about the set. He told Evers that he and Eminem were set to perform "Renegade" together on the rooftop stage.

The NYPD said Jay-Z and the theater did not need a permit for the rooftop show. -FOX NY
