It’s official: The so-called “Best Rapper Alive” isn’t The Best Rapper Ever, at least not according to the fans voting for The Best Rapper Ever at VIBE.com. In a face-off spanning generations and styles, KRS-One, who once famously claimed, “I am hip hop,” took down Lil Wayne, who has “I AM MUSIC” tattooed on his face, with a count of 61 percent of the vote to Wayne’s 39 percent. As Bracket II’s No. 3 and No. 2 seeds respectively, the Blastmaster’s victory over Weezy F. Baby was easily the biggest surprise in Round Four, although Bracket III also saw a No. 3 take down a No. 2 seed as Nas marched past Ice Cube with 68 percent of the vote. All of the No. 1 seeds easily advanced, with Ghostface Killah, Bracket IV’s No. 5 seed, putting up the best fight before falling to No. 1 Rakim after securing just 23 percent of the vote. Elsewhere, No. 3 seeded Snoop Dogg and ended DMX’s Cinderella run from the No. 10 slot, knocking out the Dark Man with 60 percent of the vote in Bracket I, and No. 2 seeded Jay-Z rolled past No. 3 seeded Andre 3000 with 63 percent of the vote in Bracket IV.
With only eight MCs left, the matchups are heating up. In Bracket I, Eminem, who was named The Best Rapper Alive in last year’s tournament and entered The Best Rapper Ever as the overall No. 1 seed, faces off against fellow Dr. Dre protégé and No. 3 seed, Snoop Dogg. In Bracket II, No. 1 seed 2Pac goes head to head against Lil Wayne killer KRS-One, while Bracket III finds No. 1 seed The Notorious B.I.G. squaring off against a former rival (of sorts) in No. 3 seed Nas. Then, there’s Bracket IV, where the final pairing finds No. 1 seed Rakim meeting No. 2 seed Jay-Z in a battle of God MCs. Who you got? Vote here.
